WHatever HAppened

Whatever happened to those joyful days
Of ice cream cones and joy parades

Whatever happened to the carefree ways
To look at the world, to spend one's days

WHatever happened to song & dance
Now packaged up in advertisements

WHatver Happened to hopeful thoughts?
just toil and work and despair they've brought

WHATVEVER HAPPENED TO MY LIFE
UNDO ME HERE, THIS CORPORATE STRIFE
TOO MUCH FOR ME, IT NEVER CHANGED
THE WORLD SEEMS SO TODAY DERANGED
THE PLOTS THEY WIND AND TWIRLD BUT YET
NO ONE SEES THEYVE NO REGRET
OF TIME SPENT USELESSLY ATTEMPT
TO HIDE FROM IT AND KEEP CONTENT
TO LIVE BLIND AND IGNORANT OF WHAT IS WRONG
WEVE BEEN ON THIS PLANET FOR SO LONG
STILL CANNOT COME TO MEND OUR WAYS
SO THERE'LL BE NO MORE BETTER DAYS
UNTIL WE STOP THE USELESS CLIMB
TO THE TOP OF THE HEAP, WHERE IT'S ALL MINE
INSTEAD WHY NOT SHARE THE WEALTH?
wHAT'S IT ALL GOOD FOR IF JUST FOR YOURSELF
AND YOUR PETTY GANGS?
DONE LISTENING TO WHAT YOU'VE TO SAY
DONE PLEAING FOR SOME BETTER WAY
DONE TAKING YOUR FALSE PROMISED CHANGE
TODAY I TAKE THE FIGHT TO YOU
I'LL SLAY YOU ALL AND YOU WILL RUE
THE DAY YOU THOUGHT YOURSELF THE BETTER
THAN ALL THE WORLD AND LET HER
DIE THIS CRUEL DEATH YOU'VE DEALT
AND STOLE FOR YOURSELF ALL THE MATERIAL WEALTH
AND RAPED YOUR FELLOW MAN OF CHANCE
TO GET MORE THAN A FLEETING GLANCE
OF HAPPINESS, WEALTH, AND TIME TO DO
WHATEVER IT IS THEY WANT TO DO
INSTEAD YOU BUILT YOUR SYSTEMS TALL
SO THEY'D BE TALLER THAN THEM ALL
AND MADE US BOW TO POISONED WORDS
YOU SOWED THE SEEDS FOR CANCER, SIR,
CAPITALISM, GOLDEN AGE,
YOUR ALL-TOO WELL-THOUGHT GENOPHAGE
MALIGNANT WEALTH FOR YOU HAS GROWN
WHILE YOU JUST REAP WHAT OTHERS' SOWN
BUT YOUR PLOTS ARE GIVING WAY
YOU'RE SLIPPING FURTHER BY THE DAY
AND I'LL BE THERE TO SEE YOU FALL
AND LAUGH, AND BURN AWAY IT ALL
AND GRASP YOUR LANDS, TITLES, AND GOLD
AND THROW IT ALL ACROSS THE WORLD
SO THE PEOPLE SEE WHAT LITTLE IT MEANS
A CAR, A HOUSE, A PERFECT DREAM
AND COME TO SEE IT MATTERS NOT
WHAT MATERIAL WEALTH YOU'VE GOT
AND SEE THE VALUE LIES IN PASSION
IN DREAMS FULFILLED, AND SWEET COMPASSION
NOT IN YACHTS OR COIN OR FASHION,
NOT IN LIFE, LIVED IN RATION

Things you can do with your life (i.e. what I would do with mine if it weren't for school, university, etc) instead of wasting your time

a) Get a job, make $$ - I know it doesn't sound fun but time wasted could not be better spent making dough.
b) Read a book - On top of the obvious mental
benefits, having read multiple books can make you more cultured in conversation, and provides a sense of accomplishment
c) Watch a movie (a GOOD one) - It still boggles me how so many people have access to so many free, torrentabll movies that they simply don't watch. Classics like The Godfather, Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, and Shawshank Redemption all go unwatched amid the constant drivel that comes out of Hollywood these days
d) Socializing over the internet - Okay, this one is beyond obvious. Everyone you socialize with at school? Guess what? PROBABLY ON FACEBOOK, SKYPE, OR ANY OF THE OTHER ENDLESS SOCIAL MEDIA SITES THAT EXIST. It's not the same as face-to-face, but gosh-diddly-darn if they could stand your presence in real life then they'd probably be okay with you messagin them too (me? I'd have loved it if you'd messaged me a "Happy Holidays" or a "wats up im so bored bcuz thrrs no shcool" over the past two weeks)
e) Finally, learn something - THere's a plethora (do you know what that means? If not, pay attention folks) of resources such as University websites (MIT in particular), as well as the new iTunes U that offer FREE (yes, free) education - lectures, videos, etc. For $0.00. I'd pick up a notebook or free note-taking software like Evernote and watch some of these lectures, documentaries, and the like, actively taking notes while it plays. It will help you in school, and you'll actually probably learn something! Plus, the more you learn, the more you know, the more you can talk about. Nothing starts a conversation like "Hey, did you know Monarch butterflies can get energy from the sun?" (Which they actually can, which is cool).
Anyways, hope you and everyone reading knows what to do next time their twiddling their thumbs. And remember kids, half the stuff I mentioned has a mobile app, so you can do it while your waiting too!
PS I'd like to point out that I did not cuss throughout this entire bit of writing - big step for me!
